What is a random name picker wheel?

A random name picker wheel is a tool that chooses one item at random from a list, displayed as a spinning wheel. You enter a list of names or choices, hit spin, and the pointer stops on one item with equal probability across the list. Unlike a slot machine roller or a range number picker, a name wheel is best when the items are people's names, team labels or short text choices.

Who should use a name wheel?

Teachers use it to call on students to answer questions, present or form groups without bias. Streamers and hosts use it to pick giveaway winners on livestream using a transparent overlay in OBS or Streamlabs. HR staff, team leads and event organizers use it for team-building splits, holiday raffles or picking a speaker in meetings. In online classrooms, teachers can share a QR code so the whole class sees the same wheel result on their phones.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a limit on the number of names?

There is no hard limit. For very long lists (over 500 names), we recommend the Race Track tool for clearer result display.

Can I embed the wheel in an OBS livestream?

Yes. Open the wheel in overlay mode for a transparent background, then add a Browser Source in OBS or Streamlabs pointing to the overlay URL.

Are the results truly random?

Yes. The tool uses the browser's Math.random algorithm — no bias, no cheating and no data is sent to any server.

Can I auto-remove winners so they don't repeat?

Yes. You can remove the winning entry after each spin, or keep the full list to spin again.
